- Department of Chemistry, University of Delhi, Delhi-110007 Manuscript received 20 July 1973; accepted 19 October 1973 1-(\(p\)-Methoxyphenyl)-3-phenyl-2-(substituted sulphonamidobenzeneazo) propane-1,3-diones on conden· sation with hydrazine hydrate (100%), phenylhydrazine, \(p\)-toluylhydrazine, and \(p\)-nitrophenylhydrazine give the corresponding N1 -substituted-3-(\(p\)-methoxyphenyl)-5-phenyl-4-(substituted sulphonamidobenzeneazo) pyrazoles. The antibacterial properties of all these pyrazole derivatives have been tested by the cup-plate agar diffusion method against S. aureus and E. coli.
