Manuscript received 16 January 1976; accepted 5 April1975 Hippuric acid has been found to be a better suited reagent for gravimetric estimation of zirconium. Even microquantity i.e., 1--2 mg. of zirconium can be estimated accurately in pH range 4.-5.2. Because of variable composition the precipitate is ignited and zirconium is weighed as ZrO2, Ba2+, Ca2+, Sr2+, Mg2+, Pb2+, Co2+, Ni2+ and Fe3+ are removed by single precipitation. Ti4+, Uo22+, AI3+ and trivalent cerite earth ions are removed by double precipitation. Zn2+, Be2+, CO3+, V2O42+ ions interfere.
