Manuscript received 16 September 1976 ; Accepted 29 October 1976. 1-Phenyl-3-methyl-2-pyrazolin-5-one has been condensed with ferrocene aldehyde and 2-methyl heterocyclic quaternary salts giving (IIla) and (IX a-c) respectively. The reaction of ferrocenylidine derivatives (III a,b) with hydrazine hydrate, phenylhydrazine, amines and urea has been investigated. Interaction of (IX a-c) with ferrocenealdehyde gives new types of asymmetrical monomethine cyanine dyes (X a-c).
