Alkali Metal Complexes Mixed Ligand Complexes of β-Alaninates with Some Oxygen and Nitrogen Donor Ligands

  • Chemistry Department, Patna University, Patna 800005 Manuscript received 25 October 1975 ; revised 1 March 1976 ; accepted 3 March 1976 Mixed ligand complexes of the general formula ML.\(n\)HL' have been synthesised where M= Li, Na, K, Rb, and Cs ; HL= β-alanine and HL' =8-hydroxyquinoline, 1-nitroso-2-naphthol, isonitrosoacetophenone, \(o\)-nitrophenol and acetylacetone. The value of \(n\) is usually one, but in some cases, specially with Rb and Cs, the value is either 2 or 3, suggesting coordination number six or greater than six. These complexes have been found to be stabler than the corresponding glycine compounds ; and pK has been found not to be the dominant factor in the formation of these mixed ligand complexes.
