  • Introduction: HIV epidemic within men who have sex with men (MSM) has been increasing in many countries. The objective of this study is to explore the contributing factors in clinical trial participation among HIV-positive MSM in Malaysia. Results: In general, all the respondents were favourable towards participating in future HIV clinical trials. The biggest motivator for the respondents to be involved in a HIV clinical trial is the sense of altruism and obligation. Logistics and financial constraints are two main identified barriers. Privacy and confidentiality and side effects were reported as major concerns during clinical trials. Discussion/Conclusion: The overall findings from this study indicate that more facilitators for clinical trial participation had been identified as compared to the barriers. Addressing genuine concerns, rationale and reasoning of the future study participants will likely improve study participant enrolment rates among this vulnerable population.
