- Department of Chemistry, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois 60201 This paper gives a brief review of the research done in our laboratory on the formation of metal nitrene (NH) complexes, and the reacivity of the coordinated nitrene. The complexes are formed as active intermediates by (1) the reaction of certain azido metal ammines with acid, (2) the reactions of these systems photochemieally, and (3) by he reaction of lr(NH3)5 NH2 CI3+ with bromide or hydroxide ions. The coordinated nitrene (M-NH) behaves as a powerful electrophile, reacting with even weak nucleophiles such as \(HSO^{-}_4\) and CI- to form the corresponding acidoamines (M-NH2X).
