- Along the gentle western slopes of the Great Divide, 110 km west of the Atherton Tablelands, lies a narrow belt of limestone karst. The limestone towers, geologically part of the Chillagoe Formation, appear as bluffs often extending over 50 m above the surrounding plains. They begin just southeast of Chillagoe, extending to the Walsh River 50 km to the northwest, where they disappear below ground, only to re-emerge near the Mitchell River 60 km to the north.
