The reaction is found to be first order w.r.t. S2O\(_3^{-2}\); zero order w.r.t. N-methyl acetamide but the specific rate is function of S2O\(_3^{-2}\) and CH3CONHCH3 concentrations. It decreases with an increase in S2O\(_3^{-2}\) concentration but increases with an increase in CH3CONHCH3 concentration and becomes immeasurable at high concentrations. The specific rate is linearly related to [Ag+] ion by an expression. K=3.60x 10-2+0.40x CAg+ K+ exerts a strong inhibitory effect on the rate. The temperature coefficient, energy of activation, frequency factor and entropy of activation have been calculated. The molecular ratio is found to be 2: 1. The final products oftbe system are CH3COOH, 0020 N. and 0 1 0. On the basis of these results a possible reaction mechanism has been proposed and a corresponding rate expression has been deduced.
