College, l\Ieerut-250 002 Manuscript received 21 May 1979, accepted 30 November 1979 Protonation constant of 4,5-dimethyl-2-hydroxy acetophenone and its oxime has been determined in aqueous-dioxane (20 to 75% (v/v)) at different ionic strengths (0.01M to 0.1M NaClO4 ) and temperatures 20°, 30° & 40° potentiometrically. The value of change in free energy (∆G), enthalpy (∆ H) and entropy (∆S) have been calculated. The value of p\(K_m^H\) (minimum p\(K_1^H\) value at θ°) has been calculated from Harned's equation.
