Egypt Manuscript received 16 March 1979, accepted 30 December 1979 Spectrophotometric measurements in the ultraviolet region within the range 200-250 nm is performed to study the reaction of violuric acid with vanadium(V5+), niobium (Nb5+) and tantalum (Ta5+). The results obtained verified that V5+, Nb5+, and Ta5+ form chelate compounds with measurable absorbance at \(\lambda\)=208, 212 and 217 nm in buffer solutions of \(p\)H 9.5, 9 and 9, for V5±. Nb5± and Ta5± violurate solutions, respectively. The stoichiometry and the stability constants of the complexes were determined from the spectrophotometric data. In the present work, the formation of complex compounds between violuric acid and V5+, Nb5++ and Ta5+ ions as the spectrophotometric measurements indicate, are reported and discussed.
