Stabilisation of Molybdenyl Cations with 4,4/-Dimethyl 2,2-Bipyridyl in Different Salt and Non-electrolytic Complexes

The heterocyclic base 4,4'-dimethyl 2,2'-bipyridyl has been shown to function as diacidic base in strong hydrochloric acid medium to yield the salt Me2bipyH2[MoOCl5]. The non-electrolytic complexes (Mo2O4CI2(Me2bipy)2] and [MoOCl3 Me2bipy] have been isolated from the parent salt by hydrolytic and debydrohalogenation reactions in solution and in solid state.
