University of Baroda, Baroda-390 001 Manuscript received 16 July 1982, revised 11 March 1983. accepted 24 June 1983 The thermodynamic metal-ligand stability constants of Be2+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Sr2+ and Ba2+ with hydroxamic acids in 60% dioxane-water media at 35 ± 0.1° have been determined. The effect of the ligand, central metal ion, ratio of the charge and radius, atomic number of the atoms and order of the stability constants is discussed. The stability constants of the alkali earth metal follows the order Be > Mg > Ca > Sr > Ba with all the substituted hydroxamic acids.
