  • Department of Chemistry, University of Roorkee, Roorkee-247 667 Manuscript received 19 February 1982, revised 31 January 1983, accepted 19 July 1983 On the basis of magnetic, conductance, ir and electronic spectral studies, complexes of the type K[Cr(NCS)2A2], K[Cr(NCS)2B], K2[Cr(NCS)4X] and K2[Cr(NCS)4Y] (A= leucine and isoleucine, B=iminodiacetic acid, X =histidine, glutamic acid, tyrosine, nicotinic acid, methionine or asparagine and Y= diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid) were found to have an octahedral structure. The ligand field strength of amino acids was in the order nicotinic acid < iminodiacetic acid < glutamic acid < tyrosine < histidine < isoleucine ≈leucine < diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid < methionine ≈ asparagine.
