- Department of Chemistry, Patna University, Patna-800 005 Manuscript received 17 September 1981, revised 1 March 1983, accepted 19 March 1983 Complexes of 3-(4-pyridyl)tria7oline-5-thlone with Mn(II), Fe(III), Ti(III) and Zr(IV) have been synthesised and characterised on the basis of physicochemical investigations including infrared and electronic spectroscopy and magnetic moment measurements. They have been assigned the formula [Mn(3,4PT 5TH) (H2O)3]CI2, [Fe(3,4PT 5T)2- (H2O)2]CI, [Ti(3,4PT 5T)2(H2O)2]Cl and [Zr(3,4PT 5T),(H2O)2]Cl2,4H2O, respectively. Chlorine atoms are found to be in ionic state. Magnetic moment data and electronic spectra indicate that the Mn(II) complex is tetrahedral but Ti(III), Fe(III) and Zr(IV) complexes are octahedral in which two water molecules are at trans positions. Metal-ligand vibrations have also been assigned.
