  • Department of Pure Chemistry, University College of Science, Calcutta-700 009 Manuscript received 19 April 1982, accepted 18 January 1983 Pyridinium oxotribalo-acetylacetonato molybdate(V), PyH(MoOX3.acac), has been isolated in the pure state by refluxing pyridinium oxopentahalomolybdate(V), (PyH)2(MoOCI5] with acetylacetoue. However, refluxing bipyridyl and 1,10-phenan-throline salts of oxohalomolybdate(V) with acetylacetone results in trans-oxotrihalo(L)- molybdenum(V) (MoOX3.L] (X=CI, Br and L=bipy or phen). Non-electrolytic oxodihalo(pyridine)(acetylacetonato)molybdenum(V) (MoOX2. acac.Py] (acac=acetylacetone) has been synthesised by thermal dehydrohalogenation of PyH[MoOX3 .acac]. All these are the manifestation of the solvolytic reaction of molyhdenyi(V) cation .. "MoO3+" with acetyl acetone. All the compounds have been studied by various physicochemical methods.
