- Department of Chemistry, University of Delhi, Delhi-110 007 Manuscript received 11 June 1982, accepted 28 December 1982 η5-indenyl)(η5-pyrrolyl)zirconium(IV) dichloride, when treated with acetylacetone in aqueous medium forms ionic derivatives of the type [RR'Zr(acac)+Cl-(R=C9H7, R= C4H4N and Hacac acetylacetone). These ionic derivatives react with dithiocarbamate anions in aqueous solution, giving ionic complexes of the general formula IRR'Zr (acac)+dtc-(dtc-=Me2NCS\(_2^-\),Et2NCS\(_2^-\), \(i\) Pr2NCS \(_2^-\), Me,cyhxNCS\(_2^-\),Et, cyhxNCS\(_2^-\), \(i\) Pr2NCS\(_2^-\)) IR and 1H mr studies demonstrate that the ligand acetylacetone appears to be chelating in all these complexes. Consequently, tetrahedral coordination about the zirconium atom is proposed.
