  • Lady Brabourne College, Calcutta-700 017 Manuscript received 13 April 1983, accepted 3 August 1983 Water molecules being highly polar are maximally bonded to clay particles and are hence likely to influence clay-clay interaction. The role of water molecules in interaction of binary clay mixtures was studied by means of electrochemical measurements altering the medium to one of low dielectric constant. The variation of c.e.c. values indicates a lower percentage of interaction in aqueous acetone medium.
