- Department of Chemistry, University College, Kakatiya University, Warangal-506 009 Manuscript received 5 March 1984, accepted 15 August 1984 7-Arylbenzimidazo[1',2':1,6]pyrimido[4,5-b] [l,8]naphthyridines (VI) have been prepared by the oxidation of 7-aryl-6,7-dihydrobenzimidazo [1',2' : 1,6]pyrimldo[4,5-b] [1,8]naphthyridines (IV). The dihydro compounds (IV) have been obtained by the con-densation of benzaldehydes with 2-amino-3-(2-benzimicazolyl)-1,8-naphthyridine (III) which in turn obtained by the condensation of 2-aminonicotinaldehyde (I) with 2-cyano- methylbenzimidazole (II). The structures of the compounds have been established by elemental analyses and spectral data.
