The bases react with copper(II), nickel(II) and cobalt(II) sulphates to give neutral complexes of the type Cu or Ni(C13H11O2N)(H2O), Cu or Ni(C14H11O3N)(H2O), Co(C14H11O3N) or Co(C14H11O3N)(H2O), which have been assigned planar and octahedral geometries on the basis of molar conductance, infrared, magnetic and electronic spectral data. The complexes undergo ligand replacement reactions with ammonia, pyridine, ethylene or propylenediamines to give new products which have also been characterised on the basis of analysis, TGA, magnetic and infrared data.
