- Department of Chemistry, University College of Science, Calcutta-700 009 Manuscript received 5 January 1981, revised 14 September 1982, accepted 16 February 1983 Several mixed ligand complexes of the type M(GMPC).B [GMPCH2 = 1-guany1-5-methyl pyrazole-3-carboxylic acid ; M= Co(II), Ni(II) or Cu(II) ; B=H2O, NH3, py, pico, bipy or o-phenl have been synthesised and physico-chemically characterised. Magnetic and electronic spectral features classify all the Co(II) and Cu(II) species as distorted octahedral ones while the mixed Ni(II) complexes have been characterised as planar or octahedral or even as a mixture of both the forms depending on the nature of coligand. IR spectra indicate the pyrazole nitrogen, the carboxyl oxygen and the nitrogen of the guanyl component as potential binding sites in the primaryiligand. Derivatographic studies reveal, in general, the thermal stability of the complex species, giving an indication of the mode of cleavage of the molecules at increasing temperatures.
