- Organic Chemistry Division Medicinal and Economic Plants Division Regional Research Laboratory, Jorhat-785 006 Manuscript received 2 November 1983, accepted 26 May 1984 A series of 3-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-4-aryl-5-mercapto 1,2,4-triazoles (4a-1) have been synthesised from the corresponding 1-(2,4-dichlorobenzoyl)-4-aryl thiosemicarbazides (3a-1) by cyclization with sodium hydroxide. Methyl thioether derivatives of some of the triazoles were prepared by methylation of the mercapto groups. All the compounds were screened for their fungitoxic properties against.\(\mathcal{Alternaria tenuis}\) and \(\mathcal{Curvularia verruciformis}\). A few of the compounds showed good activities.
