The complex exhibits maximum absorbance at 535 nm in the \(p\)H range 8.0-11.1. The Sandell's sensitivity of the colour reaction is 0.0008 μg/cm2 (ԑ =8.3 x104). The reagent has been found to be fairly selective for the determination of copper(II) in presence of various interfering metal ions. The method has been used for the selective determination of copper in various milk samples.
