Lectotypus (designated by ADEMA, 1991: 111): NEW CALEDONIA: sine loco, s.d., Pancher 142 (M [M0225246] image seen; iso-: MEL [MEL1539980] image seen, P [P05310069, P05310082, P05310086, P05310089]!). Distribution and ecology. – Lepidocupania fruticosa is endemic to the southwestern part of Grande Terre, where it grows in dense humid forest, usually on serpentinite, but sometimes also on schist or laterite, from 5 to 300(–900) m (ADEMA, 1991). Notes. – Based on our current knowledge on this species, additional taxonomic studies appear to be needed to clarify its circumscription. This should also include material currently assigned to L. subfalcata and L. tontoutensis (see below for additional details).
