  • DESCRIPTION OF LUTEITHERMOBACTER GELATINILYTICUS SP. NOV. Luteithermobacter gelatinilyticus (ge.la.ti.ni.ly′ ti.cus. N.L. neut. n. gelatinum gelatin; Gr. masc. adj. lytikos able to dissolve; N.L. masc. adj. lyticus dissolving; N.L. masc. adj. gelatinilyticus gelatin-dissolving). Cells are rod-shaped with a width of 0.4–0.5 μm and length of 1.5–2 μm. Colonies are 3 mm in diameter and pale yellow, with a circular, convex, entire edge, and a glistening surface on MA after 3 days of cultivation. Growth is observed at 35–59 °C (optimum 55 °C), at pH 6.0–9.0 (optimum pH 6.0) and with 1–9% (w/v) NaCl (optimum 2.5–3.5%) in the presence of KCl, MgCl 2 and CaCl 2. Nitrate is reduced to nitrite. Negative for indole production and cannot assimilate aesculin, p -NP(nitrophenyl)-galactopyranoside or urea. However, 2-naphthyl phosphate, 2-naphthyl butyrate, 2-naphthyl caprylate, L-leucyl-2-naphthylamide,L-valyl-2-naphthylamide, L -cystyl-2-naphthylamide, 2-naphthyl phosphate, naphthol-AS- BI- phosphate, dextrin, cellobiose, turanose, lactose, D-fructose, D -sorbitol, D-arabitol, myo -inositol,D-fructose 6-phosphate, D -aspartic acid, gelatin, L-arginine,L-histidine,L-serine, pectin, D -galacturonic acid,L-galactonic acid lactone,D-glucuronic acid, glucuronamide, p -hydroxy-phenylacetic acid, methyl pyruvate, D-lactic acid methyl ester, α-ketobutyric acid, acetoacetic acid, propionic acid, acetic acid and formic acid can be assimilated. The major fatty acids include C 14:0, C 16:0, C ω6 c, C 19:0 cyclo ω8 c, C 2-OH, summed feature 3 (C 16:1 ω6 c and/or C 16:1 ω7 c) and summed feature 8 (C 18:1 ω7 c and/or C 18:1 ω6 c). The predominant polar lipids include phosphatidylethanolamine, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, an unidentified phospholipid, three unidentified aminolipids and two unidentified lipids. 17:1 14:0 The type strain, MEBiC09520 T (=KCCM 43320 T =MCCC 1K03920 T), was isolated from a tidal sediment of Buksung- Po, Incheon, South Korea. The DNA G+C content of the type strain is 54.7 mol%. The GenBank/EMBL/MMBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence is MK878394 and that of the genome sequence is CP040517.
