- Department of Chemistry, University College of Science, University of Calcutta, Calcutta-700 009 Manuscript received 1 December 1983, revised 24 August 1984, accepted 18 January 1985 With 1-hydroxymethyl-5(3)-methylpyrazole-3(5)-carboxylic acid (HmMPzH2) as primary ligand, mixed-ligand complexes of the types, M(HmMPzH)2.2B-nH2O and M(HmMPzH)2.B-B.nH20 [M= Co/Ni ; B= H2O, NH2, py, pico(α,β,Υ) ; B - B= ophen/dipy ; n=0, 2] have been isolated and characterised in solid state. Magnetic and electronic spectral data classify all the mixed-ligand complexes as normal pseudooctahedral ones. Ir data indicate that the primary ligand (HmMPzH2) behaves as a monoprotic bidentate (N— O) one, through the carboxylic acid function with deprotonation and the pyrazolyl (tertiary) ring nitrogen, whereas the hydroxymethyl group present in 1-position of the pyrazole ring does not take part in complex formation under the experimental conditions.
