- Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Education, Ain Shams University, Roxy, Cairo, Egypt Manuscript received 15 October1987, revised 16 March 1988, accepted 6 April 1988 The formation o europium(III) complexes with1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-(x-arylhydrazo)-5-pyrazolone dyes (x=2-OH, 2-OH-5-CH2, 2-OH-5-Cl) with EuIII was investigated by potentiometric and polarographic methods. The acid form of the ligands ionises successively in two steps, the phenolic group and then the hydrazo group. An electroanalytical method for determination of either the metal ion or the organic dye is introduced.
