There are also paralectotypes in the Natural History Museum in London and in the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris (MNHNP 4692), obtained through exchange with the National Museum of Natural History in Leiden. RMNH 2289 consists of 20 dried specimens with a large hole in the head as they were used for pharmaceutical purposes. These specimens are also the type series of Salamandra unguiculata Temminck & Schlegel, 1838.
