- Department of Chemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh-160 014 Manuscript received 19 September 1986, revised 23 July 1987, accepted 30 October 1987 6-Nitropiperonyl chloride (1), on reaction with N-carbethoxyhydrazine (2) followed by reduction with tin and concentrated HCI gave ethyl 2-[(6-amino-1,3-benzodioxol-5- yl)methyl]ihydrazinecarboxylate (4) which on treatment with HCI and KSCN and subsequent cyclisation resulted in the formation of 7,8-dihydro-10H-1,3-dioxolo[4,5-g]thia-diazolo[2,3-b]quinazolin-7-one (5).
