  • Department of Chemistry, Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar-470 003 Manuscript received 18 December 1986, revised 4 September 1987, accepted 23 September 1987 The occurrence of tetrad-effect in the solution stabilities of some ternary lantha-nide complexes of the type [Ln(III).A.pic], where Ln(III)=tervalent lanthanide cation La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy or Er ; A=NTA or EDTA ; pic=picolinic acid, has been investigated. Solution stabilities have been determined in aqueous medium at 25° and ionic strength, I=0.2 mol dm-3 (KNO3) by means of potentiometric pH-titrations using the Irving — Rossotti approach. The tetrad-effect has been explained with the help of the so called inclined-W hypothesis also.
