  • Department.of Chemistry, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur-302 004 Manuscript received 23,October 1989, accepted 30 March 1990 Adducts of the types [Sb(OR)5. B] (R=CH3, C2H5, iC3H7, iC3H7 ; B-=NH3 and C5H5N) and [Sb(OR)3(OR')2 ,NH2 ] (R=iC3H7, iC5H1 ; R'=CH3 and iC3H7 ) have been prepared under strictly anhydrous conditions by the reactions of SbCI5 or Sb(OR)3 Br2 with alcohols in the presence of anhydrous ammonia or pyridme. The adducts are highly soluble in parent alcohols but are hydrolytically as well as thermally unstable even under reduced pressure. Molecular weight measurements indicate their monomeric nature in parent alcohols. Conductometric studies suggest that they are covalent in character An octahedral structure of the adducts has been proposed on the basis of ir, 1H and 13C nmr studies.
