- Department of Chemistry, Central College, Bangalore University, Bangalore-560 001 Manuscript received 18 November 1986, accepted 22 August 1987 3-Dimethylsulphamido- 10 -[3 -(4-.methanesulphonylpiperazino)propyl]phenotbiazine methanesulphonate forms orange-red species with Vv in phosphoric acid medium. The species exhibits maximum absorption at 513 nm with a molar absorptivity of 9.26 x 103 dm2 mol-1 cm-1. Beer's law is valid over the concentration range 0.1 - 6.3 ppm with an optimum concentration range 0.5 - 5.8 ppm. The method has been used successfully for the determination of vanadium in alloys and minerals.
