  • Plekocheilus (Plekocheilus) fulminans (Nyst, 1843) (Figs 7 D–E) Bulimus fulminans Nyst 1843: 261, pl. 7 fig. 1. Type locality: Venezuela, Est. Sucre. Lectotype RBINS /MT 2351 (Breure 2011). Plekocheilus fulminans (Nyst); Richardson 1995: 312 (references). Material. ?, “ Columbia,” Thorey leg.: ANSP 328096. Venezuela, Sucre, Cumaná: DMNH 76763, USNM 307543; Angostura: CMC C 10997. “ Venezuela:” CMC C 10733, CMC C 10734, UMMZ 147716 (G.A. Lathrop leg.). Guyana, Mt. Roraima: UMMZ 147717 (ex Linter, ex Tomlin). Remarks. According to Abbott (1989) and Haas (1955), this species has a wide distribution throughout Venezuela and northeastern Colombia. However, we have not seen any specimens from Colombia that can unambiguously be attributed to this taxon. The specimen from ANSP figured here matches the figure from Nyst (1843) quite well. Altitude data have been reported only for P. fulminans linterae (Sowerby III, 1890) and P. fulminans alticola (Haas, 1955) from the highlands in Venezuelan Guayana (see Breure 2009). The only other specific locality known, for the nominate form, is Cumaná (near sea level), which might not be the actual collection locality (see also the general remark in the introduction). Breure and Schlögl (2010) discussed the relationships between the nominate taxon and the taxa from Venezuelan Guayana.
