Plekocheilus tenuissimus was hitherto only known from the type specimen. Recently some material was collected (A. González, pers. comm.), tentatively identified as this species, which suggests that this taxon also occurs in northern Ecuador (Prov. Carchí, El Laurel, 2500 m). Further evidence is needed to confirm its presence in northwestern Ecuador and its relationship with P. calliostoma, to which it may prove to be closely allied.
