Norte de Santander, 18 km S of Cúcuta, Carriker leg./ 1947: USNM 590661.?, Colombia, ex H.C. Fulton: USNM 532645 (as Eurytus cathcartiae Reeve, “cotype”); New Granada: ZMUZ 511654 [not seen], BMNH Acc. no. 1829 (Cuming Colln). Venezuela, Mérida: BMNH 1975288; “ Venezuela,” van Lansberge leg.: RMNH. Remarks. USNM 590661 is the first record for this species with a precise locality in Colombia, although an elevation cannot be assessed with certainty. However, locations at approximately the stated distance from Cúcuta in a S and SW direction range 400 to under 1500 m. We consider this a low elevation in comparison with other species of P. (Aeropictus); it is also possible that the locality data are not accurate. Richardson (1995) grouped P. cathcartiae (Reeve) and P. quadricolor (Pfeiffer) together with P. veranyi (Pfeiffer). However, P. veranyi is always smaller than P. cathcartiae and confined to the Mérida area in Venezuela; P. quadricolor is different in shell shape, being more elongate.
