- Department of Chemistry, Sambalpur University, Jyoti Vihar, Burla-768 017 ManuscrIpt received 10 August 1989, revised 17 October 1989, accepted 21 November 1989 4-[S-(Benzothiazolyl-2')mercaptoacetyl]thiosemicarbazides (2 ; R=H and C4H5) were synthesised from 1[S-(benzothiazoly1-2ʹ)]mercaptomethylhydrazide (1) by reacting with potassium thiocyanate and phenyl isothiocyanate respectively. The thiosemicarbazides afforded thiazolidinones (4a and 5a) through different routes. The thiazolidinones furnished arylidene derivatives (4b and 5b) with aromatic aldehydes and aminometbyl compounds (6) through Mannich reactions. The structure of the compounds are established using spectral and analytical data.
