- Ambassidae Ambassis buruensis Bleeker, 1856 —Buru glass perchlet STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on specimens observed at St. CTR 23, CTR 26. USNM and WAM material (USNM 305331, 305333; WAM P. 27410 -011). DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Thailand and Indonesia east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to Ryukyu Islands. Found in lower reaches of streams, estuaries, in mangrove habitats, and in adjacent marine areas, 0– 2 m. Freshwater, transitional water and marine. Ambassis interrupta Bleeker, 1852 —Long-spined glass perchlet STATUS AT MADANG. First record from Madang by Parenti & Allen (1991: 318). CAS and WAM material. DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Indonesia east to Philippines and Vanuatu, south to New Caledonia. Found in lower reaches of streams, estuaries, in mangrove habitats, and in adjacent marine areas, 0– 2 m. Freshwater, transitional water and marine. Ambassis macracanthus Bleeker, 1849 —Estuarine glass perchlet STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on WAM material (WAM P. 29596 -025). DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Andaman Sea east to Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Found in lower reaches of streams, estuaries, in mangrove habitats, and in adjacent marine areas, 0– 2 m. Freshwater, transitional water and marine. Ambassis miops Günther, 1872 —Flag-tailed glass perchlet STATUS AT MADANG. First record from Madang by Parenti & Allen (1991: 318). CAS and WAM material. DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. India east to Philippines and Samoa, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to New Caledonia. Found in lower reaches of streams, estuaries, in mangrove habitats, and in adjacent marine areas, 0– 2 m. Freshwater, transitional water and marine.
