- Economically, corrosion is responsible for wasting large investments, as about 5% of GDP is usually destroyed by corrosion. According to the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the International Monetary Fund in September 2011, GDP (Iran's GDP was equal to $ 930 billion in purchasing power parity. Given that Iran's GDP and gross domestic product (GDP) have been almost the same over the past 30 years, the 5 percent share of corrosion in Iran's economy will be more than $ 52 billion a year. It should be noted that these numbers are only estimates based on universally accepted norms, and the real dimensions of the catastrophe may be even greater! Corrosion, on the other hand, imposes additional design factors: If an 8-inch steel pipe with an approximate length of the distance from Berlin to Prague is not protected against corrosion, it can become thinner and shrink to 7.829 inches. This seemingly slight reduction in thickness would be equivalent to saving 3,700 tons of steel and increasing the internal capacity of the pipe by 5%. The result of preventing this can not only save a lot of money, but it can also be very effective in helping to transport more essentials from oil and gas to drinking water.
