- Genus Sternaspis Otto, 1821 Type species. Sternaspis thalassemoides Otto, 1821, by monotypy. Diagnosis. Sternaspids with introvert hooks falcate and tapered. Pre-shield region with 7 segments. Ventrocaudal shield usually stiff with sediment particles loosely adhered, rarely soft with relatively firmly adhered sediment particles that could be removed by a sharp metal object; usually with radial ribs and concentric lines. Branchial filaments arranged in discrete branchial plates (modified after Sendall & Salazar-Vallejo 2013).
