- Department of Chemical Technology, University of Calcutta, Calcutta-700 009 Manuscript received 6 January 1988, revised 19 April 1988, accepted 6 July 1988 Effect of heat treatment at 450, 500, 550 and 600° of low melting alkali borosili-cate glasses of size fractions, -30+160, -60+80, -80+120 mes, on the leaching characteristies, has been studied by estimating SIO2, B2O2, Na2o, K2O, MgO, CaO and BaO leached out in isothermal conditions. Heat treatment improves chemical durability of both soda-lime-silica and potash-baria glasses by separation of some soluble phases followed by formation of some stable phases at higher temperature.
