Egypt Manuscript received 10December 1986, revised 28 October 1987, accepted 29 February 1988 The solid CT complexes of some indolyldiene aniline derivatives with di- and tri-nitrobenzenes have been prepared and investigated by ir, electronic and 1H nmr (DMSO d6.) spectroscopy. Non-acidic or weakly acidic acceptors yield complexes having π – π* and \( n\)-π* bonding. Strong acidic acceptors yield complexes having π – π* and proton transfer interaction. The formation of 1: 2 (D : A) complexes is also ascertained. The ionisation potential of the donors as well as the electron affinities of the acceptors are determined from the electronic absorption spectra
