Rondonops xanthomystax is endemic to southern Brazilian Amazonia, distributed between lower Madeira River and upper–middle Tapajós river system (Fig. 17). In Brazil, it is known from the states of Amazonas and Pará. Rondonops xanthomystax is terrestrial and diurnal, inhabits primary terra firme forest with open understory, high abundance of palm trees, and dense leaf litter, where it is found among leaf litter; one specimen was collected by a glue trap about 1.7 m high on a diagonally-oriented fallen tree trunk (Colli et al. 2015).
