Loxopholis ferreirai is endemic to the archipelago of Anavilhanas, lower Negro River, state of Amazonas, Brazil (Fig. 12). It represents a rare case of endemicity of a terrestrial vertebrate species to an archipelago or island in Amazonia. Loxopholis ferreirai is terrestrial and diurnal, inhabits the igapó forest present on the islands, where it is usually found in the leaf litter and under decomposing trunks and fallen palm leaves (personal communication with T. Ávila-Pires).
