- Department of Chemistry, University of Delhi, Delhi-110 007 Manuscript received 20 August 1993 Dichlorobis(η5-cyclopentadienyl)titanium(IV) and -zirconium(IV), [ η5-C5H5)TiCI2 and (η5,C5H5)2ZrCl2], react with tetradentate Schiff bases such as salicyldene-o-phenylenediamine, salicyldene-p-phenylenediamine, 2- hydroxynaphtbalene-1-carbaldene-o-phenylenediamine, 2-hydroxynaphathlene-1-carbaldeoe-p -phenylenediamine, in 1 : 1 molar ratio in refluxing tetrahydrofuran at 66° in presence of triethylamine (used as scavanging agent) to yield complexes of the type (η5-C5H5)2 Ti(SB) and (η5-C5H5)2Zr(SB) respectively, where SB is the anion of the corresponding Schiff base, SBH2. The complex derivatives have been characterised on the basis of their conductance measurements and spectral (ir, 1H nmr and electronic) studies.
