- Department of Chemistry, Tripura University, Agartala-799 004, India Manuscript recerved 22 September 1998, accepted 10 October 1998 A number of new mh.cd ligand complexes of zinc(II) ion have been synthesizcd by the reaction of zinc nitrate in aqueous/aqucous cthanolic medium with potassium 1,1-dicyanoethylene-2,2-dithiolate (K2i-MNT) in presence of ammonia, pyridine (py), 2,2-bipyridine (bipy) or 1,10-phenanthrolinc (o-phen), having the compositions, ZnL2(i-MNn [L == NH3/py] and Zn(L-L)n(i-MNT) [L-L = bipy/o-phen, n = 1, 2]. The complexes are non-electrolyte in DMSO. Infrared spectral studies suggest unidcntatc bonding behaviour of NH3 and py and bidcntate chelating behaviour of i-MNT2- ion, bipy and o-phen in their complexes. Octahedral coordination around ZnII ion in these complexes has been proposed.
