  • Sida rhombifolia Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 684. 1753. "Habitat in India utraque." RCN: 5010. Lectotype (Rodrigo in Revista Mus. La Plata, Secc. Bot., n.s., 6(24): pl. 28. 1944): Herb. Linn. No. 866.3 (LINN). Generitype of Sida Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 172. 1929). Current name: Sida rhombifolia L. (Malvaceae). Note: Sida alnifolia L. was treated as the generitype by Britton & Brown (Ill. Fl. N. U. S., ed. 2, 2: 520. 1913; see McNeill & al. in Taxon 36: 384. 1987). However, under Art. 10.5, Ex. 7 (a voted example) of the Vienna Code, this is a type choice made under the American Code and is to be replaced under Art. 10.5b by Green’s choice (Prop. Brit. Bot.: 172. 1929) of S. rhombifolia. See extensive discussion by Sivarajan & Pradeep (in Sida 16: 65. 1995), and the results of a detailed examination of Rodrigo’s type by Verdcourt (in Kew Bull. 59: 233-234. 2004).
