The coated material acts as stationary phase for the extraction. Ion exchange and break-through capacity of the exchanger have been measured. The optimum pH range for the quantitative extraction of HgII was found to be 5.0-6.0. The elution behaviors of HgII have been investigated. A plausible mechanism for HgII extraction and elution has been suggested. HgII has been isolated quantitatively from various synthetic mixtures containing heavy metal ions (Pb2+, Cd2+, zn2+, Co2+, Ni2+ and cu2+).
