- Java apple (Syzygium samarangense) is a tropical plant, cultivated and naturalized in India, Srilanka and Pacific islands (Morton, 1987). It is being cultivated in Indian states viz. Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka (Santhi Sirisha and Shreeja, 2019). In Tamil Nadu the commercial cultivation of Java apple is meager. Dharmapuri district is the northern part of Tamil Nadu is a dry tract with tropical climate. Cultivation of Java apple in Dharmapuri district is very experimental as the presence of Java apple is very rare even as a specimen tree in that locality. The study site has 100 numbers of trees of age 3 years. Planting was done in a spacing of 4.5 x 4.5 m. After planting, the orchard was almost of zero management except the initial weeding and drip irrigation. The initial establishment cost was around ₹. 35000.00 including the planting material and planting cost. The trees started bearing form the second year. Harvesting was done during December to April. The average yield per tree was 55.0 kg. The average farm gate price for the unripe and ripe fruits was ₹. 70.00 and ₹. 80.00 respectively. The incidence of pest and disease was almost zero since planting. Harvesting is also very easy that a woman about can harvest 150.0 kg per hour. The benefit cost ratio is 10:1 in the third year. Since Bengaluru market is of metropolitan nature and is nearby the scope for the cultivation of Java apple in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu seems successful.
