Mesopelagic to bathypelagic; depth: taken in open nets fished above 700 m (2,297 ft) (Bertelsen et al. 1981), and at maximum depths of 5,396 m (17,700 ft) (Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California).
