Ligands used in these studies have been prepared by the condensation of semicarbazide/thiosemicarbazide and suitable carbonyls in ethanol. The prepared complexes were isolated as solid product and the authenticity of these ligands and their complexes were established on the basis of elemental analysis, molecular weight determination, melting point determination and IR, NMR (1H, 13C), mass spectral studies. These spectral data revealed that the ligands act as bidentate chelating agent and coordinate via ketonic oxygen or thionic sulphur and the azomethine nitrogen atom to the metal. Newly synthesized ligand and its palladium(II) complexes have been screened against bacterial and fungal growth.
