The supported nanoparticles have been used for the facile reduction of 4- nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol using sodium borohydride as the reducing agent. The reduction process is followed by monitoring the change in absorbance of 4-nitropheolate ion at 400 nm by the UV-Vis spectroscopy. The presence of several isosbestic points indicates a clean transformation of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol. The requirement of the amount of catalyst or reducing agent in the present case is significantly small compared to the previously reported cases, though the rate constant values are comparable to the literature reported values.
